Registration for the 2013 Ottawa Sun Scramble is ready to go!

Players who made the cut last year in the Ottawa-Gatineau region’s largest golf tournament are able to pre-register starting Feb. 15 and golfers of all calibres can sign up to compete in 11 divisions beginning March 1. 

“The Ottawa Sun Scramble continues to grow and I expect this year to be no different,” said Andy Rajhathy, vice-president of Executive Golf, the organization that puts together and run the event. “We've refined our qualifying process and transparency with regards to divisional eligibility so this year there should be some excellent competition in every division. The schedule of events remains the same and all courses from last year are on board again.”

The Flagstick Open City Championship division has become a premier test for some of the best players in the region and should a professional win this year’s event, he will pocket more cash.

If a professional wins he’ll bank $1,000 and there’s $500 in prize money for the top pro (a player can’t win both). A pro finishing second gets $300 and a third-place finish earns $100.

“The Flagstick Open City Championship is establishing a solid footprint in the region,” said Rajhathy. “Partnerships with our sponsors such as Flagstick, GolfWorks, Promomedia, Regimbal, Absolute Comedy, Flashpoint Photo Booth, Labatt and Royal Oak really make this tournament a highlight on local golfers' calendars.”

The Ladies Open prize money for a professional comes in at $300 for first place and $150 for the runner-up.

One of the keys to the ongoing success of the Ottawa Sun Scramble is that it’s a tournament for men and women players of all skill levels.

“The organization and running of each division is the same,” Rajhathy said. “The competition is keen and when it’s over the winners can be proud to be city champions.”  

The Ottawa Sun is back as title sponsor for the event’s ninth year and promises to come through with tee-to-green reports from all of the courses.   

"We have had a lot of change in our business and our industry in the last year, but one thing that doesn't change is the Sun's commitment to the tournament as the title sponsor,” said Mike Therien of Sun Media. “We look forward to the best Sun Scramble yet, with wall-to-wall coverage of all categories in our print newspapers and online for golf fans across the region."

Meet a Slammer: Brian "Lucky" Kebic

When Brian “Lucky” Kebic first hooked up with Executive Golf and its Slammer Tour, he was blown away by the total package of services and events offered by the virtual golf club.

“EG extended a special offer to the members of the old NDHQ Golf Association when it ceased to operate in 2007 and I decided to gave it a try,” said Kebic. “I was impressed by the overall organization and found that EG was more then just an online golf booking system. From golf trips, to special events, along with competitive and non-competitive leagues, they have something for everyone. As someone who loves the competitive side of golf, the Slammer Tour was just a natural fit.”
